We took the Holiday Rambler to Mt. Princeton Campground in early August. This is such an awesome campground! We were in site 5. It is a wonderful site. The river is directly behind you and the rv and tent pads are nice and level.

This campground only has 16 sites and they fill up fast. You need to get a reservation at recreation.gov. All the sites are nice, but the ones along the river are by far the best. This is dry camping. There are vault toilets and a hand pump for water. There is no dump station, but the Chalk Creek Campground has one and it is just down the road.

St. Elmo is up the road about 12 miles. It is a great little destination. The boys loved the general store. It has antiques and souvenirs. The chipmunks are adorable, too! They come right up and get on your lap. We had the dogs with us camping, but did not the them to St. Elmo…..the chipmunks would have driven them insane!

There is a lot of four wheeling and motorcycle trails around here, too. I wish we had taken our 4 wheelers and dirt bikes, but that is just too much crap to haul across the state for a 2 night stay.

We spent an afternoon in Salida. The river walk is beautiful! It is such a cute town! They have lots of great shops and antique stores. Wish we had more time to spend exploring the area. Two days is just not enough time! After the trip in to Salida, the boys went to the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. They are just a couple miles from the campground. I would’ve liked to go, too, but we didn’t have the heart to lock the dogs up in the camper again. They said the hot springs were great, but REALLY HOT. Duh. Fall, winter, or spring may be a better time to go.

I LOVE THE DOOR ON MY RAMBLER!!! I made a screen protector and Mod Podged some more map pieces on it. It keeps the dogs from trashing the screen, and it is pretty stinkin’ cute.

On the way home, we were going to spend a night at the Kenosha Pass campground. We pulled in, and found a great site. We just kind of hemmed and hawed and stared at each other….neither one of us felt like setting up and unpacking the camper again! So, we walked the dogs and headed home. I would like to camp there sometime, though. It is beautiful up there!

Our next trip is to Estes Park in September. We are taking Midge, and staying at Paradise on the River RV Park. It gets great reviews and I am really excited to stay there, we tried to get reservations last year, but they did not have any available. It is so popular, you need to reserve 6-9 months in advance. We are going to be there during the Longs Peak Highland Festival! So excited! AND…..the dogs are staying home! Our first time camping in Midge with no dogs in the bed! Woo hoo!!

We have had many great camping trips this summer. I am sad it is winding down. The guys start back to school soon. I hate that. It’s been a crazy summer around here. Lots of changes and heartache. Nothing I will bore you with here, but I feel time marching on, and it saddens me. I am so glad I have these campers! They are a great attitude adjustment tool.  My life is blessed and I am always grateful.

Stay tuned for more adventures with Midge!
