Summit of Kenosha Pass
We made our first trip of the season with Midge! We spent 2 nights at Chalk Creek Campground in Nathrop, CO. We were there June 2 – 4. It is located between Salida and Buena Vista. I’ve lived here for 20+ years, but this was my first trip to this area of Colorado. It is gorgeous!
San Isabel National Forest
We stayed on the lower creek level of the campground. It is so nice and shaded down there! The lower sites have water and electric only, no cable, and pretty decent wifi. Originally, they had us in a site right on the creek, but there was no room to put out the awning or use our dog fence. We moved to a site just off the creek and it was great. The creek was really running fast and high so we didn’t get to enjoy it. I am sure later this summer it will be fun to play in. There were only 3-4 other campers set up down there, so it was really quiet. The upper campground is pretty crowded and shade is non existent. They are nice sites, but Midge needs shade! The showers are coin operated (.50 for 3 minutes), but you can get a pretty decent shower for a buck. Dear Husband had trouble getting hot water quickly, so he took a bit longer in the shower. The showers and bathrooms are super nice. The staff is really friendly.
