Working on the Holiday Rambler

on March 14, 2014

George brought the Holiday Rambler down to Denver so we could work on it this winter.  It’s home will be on the Western Slope.  She is parked at a rental property we own that is across the alley from our house.  It is pretty handy, and besides, Midge is residing in our drive way and we don’t have room for 2 campers back there.  Dear husband wanted to move Midge to a storage lot, but I wouldn’t let him.  She needs to be here with me.

I still haven’t come up with a name for the Holiday Rambler yet.  It’s tougher than you would think!  Midge came easily for some reason.  We have joined a new vintage Holiday Rambler Club.  It is called the “Ramble on Club”.  We are charter member number 13!  I have thought about naming her “Lucky”…. trying to negate the number 13!

Any way.  Remember these pictures?

Wow.  She is so cute and clean and tidy.  I miss those days.

This is what happens mid-renovation….be forewarned – It is shocking.  This is what I have to deal with.  I love my husband.  He can do anything.  EXCEPT pick up after himself.

Ready?

The horrible mess of a renovation.

....and more mess.

….and more mess.

....and still more mess.

….and still more mess.

I KNOW.

So sad.

This is what happens when my husband runs new water lines, installs new fresh water tank and water heater, and replaces the shower floor.   I told you he can do anything!  The mess he makes is the cross I bear.

Here is the shower floor torn out and the lovely black tank:

While dear husband has been slaving away in the camper, I have been busy sewing cushion covers.  Thankfully, the foam was in really good shape and fairly new.  I have never sewn cushion covers before.  The first one was really difficult, but once I got going it wasn’t too bad.  The fabric I used isn’t the most exciting.  I really wanted to get some cute fabric, but good lord!  Upholstery fabric is expensive!  I found some really great quality fabric  at Colorado Fabrics for $1.95 per yard.  I bought 26 yards of fabric for $50!!!  It is basically a neutral color, so I can add some cute pillows and curtains to spice up the interior.

Notice…I had so much fabric left over, I covered my dining room chairs, too!

I have made the curtains, but I don’t have a pic of them right now.  I found some really cute turquoise fabric in my attic stash.  Yay.  I love when that happens.

Currently, I am in the process of removing door fronts and drawers and putting a new coat of polyurethane on them.  While they are out we will put a new coat on the walls and ceiling.  The wood is absolutely beautiful.  Once the polyurethane is done we can hang the new curtain hardware and curtains.

I will update as we make progress.  I know this has nothing to do with Midge, but since I’ve got this blog going I decided to use it for the Rambler, too.

Oh!  This is what I bought George for Christmas!  It is going to look so cute with the Rambler!

We have our first trip scheduled for this summer.  We are going to our first Tin Can Tourists camp out!  It should be great fun!  It is in Victor, CO in July.  We are planning on taking Midge 🙂

Stay tuned for more renovation updates.  The Rambler is going to be so cute and ORIGINAL!  I love that.
