Happy Holidays From Midge :)

Happy Holidays from Midge!

Well, we had a spur of the moment trip with Midge!  We took her to Nebraska for Thanksgiving.  She traveled well, and it was really nice to have a place to retreat from all the family mayhem.  We were at my little brothers house…with ALL of my family (25 people!).  My brother’s wife had just given birth to their 4th child the day before we all arrived.  Can you imagine?!?!?!?  She was a great sport about it, and my new little niece was beautiful!  It was a very special Thanksgiving for my family 🙂

Unfortunately, I was so busy oohing and aahing over the baby and playing Cards Against Humanity with my siblings, that I neglected to get any pics of Midge 😦  I have several pics of the adorable baby, but should probably ask her parents before I post pics of her on the World Wide Web.

We celebrated hubby’s birthday over Thanksgiving also.  Guess what he got from me??

A Nixon Bowling canvas for Midge!   Isn’t it awesome!  Obviously, we are fans of The Big Lebowski.

Midge needed some holiday spirit, so I gave her a small 2′ aluminum Christmas tree.  It is the perfect size! I found some small yellow ornaments and a tiny strand of battery powered led lights in my Christmas decoration stash.  Stash is a kind word…it is more of a ginormous holiday explosion, bordering on hoarding.  It is all “neatly” tucked away in the basement storage area and the attic space of my house.  It is pretty frightening when I start digging in to it.

See the little “Airstream” music box?  Our great friends gave that to us for our birthdays (hubby and I both have holiday time birthdays).

Have you EVER?!  It is so flipping cute!  As my little sister would say…it is “cray cray adorbs” (of course she is referring to Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and The Voice).  I am not saying she is wrong, but I think it best describes my Airstream decorations!  For those of you who have absolutely no idea what that means, I believe it means CRAZY CRAZY ADORABLE.  My sister has a 10 year old daughter.  That must be where she heard it.

Obviously, I love all things aluminum….and this time of year, my fave is Aluminum Christmas Trees!  I’ve collected and sold them for years.  They are so stunningly beautiful.  Everyone should have one in their house.

P1010627This is my tree this year.  It is a 7′ Peco with 151 pom pom branches.  This is my favorite brand of aluminum tree.  There are many other manufacturers.  Evergleam is probably the best known.  My lovely husband gave me the pink pedal car for Christmas last year.  Isn’t it cute (cray cray adorbs)?!?!

I have 6 Aluminum Christmas Trees:  Two 7′ Silver Aluminum Trees, Two 6′ Turquoise Aluminum Trees, and a super rare 7′ Black Aluminum Tree, oh, and of course, the little 2′ tree for Midge.  This year I only put up 2 in the house.  The one pictured above, and a turquoise one in our dining room.

Wow.  I can’t believe how quickly Christmas has arrived!  My kids are finishing up finals.  One a junior in high school, the other a junior in college.  I am so anxious to have both of my guys HOME.  The countdown begins….parties, food, drinking, parties, food, drinking…YAY!

Speaking of parties:  We are going over to our friend’s annual white elephant Christmas party tomorrow night (the same wonderful people who gave us the music box).  I got a magazine with a GORGEOUS cake on the cover.  Husband kind of dared me to attempt to make it to take to the party.  Now, listen.  I can cook.  I am not a chef.  I have HORRIBLE trouble with baking at altitude, so this was a pretty serious dare.  I took the challenge, and I’ve got to say, I am pretty flippin’ proud of myself:

Red Velvet White Chocolate Cheesecake

Can you believe it?  ALL FROM SCRATCH!  The cake didn’t fall and the cheesecake turned out wonderful!  Not too shabby for a novice.   It did take me 3 freakin’ days, but I think it was worth it.  If it tastes as good as it looks, I am going to make it for our Christmas Eve party.

Wishing everyone a  very happy holiday season!
